President’s Message
Welcome to the New Zealand Rose Society website.
The New Zealand Rose Society is probably the largest horticultural society in New Zealand dedicated to one flower. The rose is instantly recognizable by everyone whether they are gardeners or not, and grown in more gardens than any other flower.
Roses grow well in all parts of New Zealand, from the colder southern areas to the heat in the north, and we have local rose societies spread right through the country. Most local societies hold meetings regularly, and are always happy to welcome the fellowship of like-minded gardeners.
There are many benefits of membership of the New Zealand Rose Society. At local meetings members learn how to exhibit roses in rose shows, and some will start the journey to becoming a certified rose judge. There will be interesting speakers on subjects such as arrangements, rose photography, landscaping, hybridizing new varieties, organic rose growing, and general rose culture. All societies have Consulting Rosarians who can be contacted when there is a problem.
Most societies produce a regular newsletter which covers growing roses under local conditions, and there is also a New Zealand Rose Annual and the New Zealand Rose Review which is distributed to every member. Every year there is a National Convention where rosarians nationwide join together.
Belonging to the rose society is fun and educational. Through this website you can become a member, either of a local society if you live in New Zealand or as an overseas member. The latter recieves all theĀ national publications such as the NZ Rose Annual and the Rose Review.
Please contact me if you have any questions.
Dawn Eagle, NZ Rose Society President
